Evidence based therapies

As well trained, licensed therapists at Stepping Stones Counseling, we work with a variety of complex situations utilizing creative and flexible techniques.

Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

TF-CBT addresses the mental health needs of children, adolescents, and families suffering from the destructive effects of early trauma.

Problem Sexual Behavior - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (PSB-CBT)

PSB-CBT is an evidence-based treatment model for children and youth who have engaged in problematic sexual behavior.

Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

This combination of play therapy and behavior therapy teaches specific skills parents and caregivers can use to help improve physical and verbal exchanges with their children.

Grief Therapy

Grief therapy helps clients move through their own unique journey to help address the loss of loved ones as well as other ambiguous losses which can be associated with things like divorce, relationship changes, job changes, moving, medical concerns, etc.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT is a type of therapy that helps individuals manage intense emotions and improve relationships by building practical skills. It focuses on balancing acceptance (understanding your feelings) with change (learning healthier ways to cope and respond).

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a psychotherapy technique designed to relieve the distress associated with disturbing memories.

Alternatives for Families - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AF-CBT)

AF-CBT is a trauma-informed evidence-based treatment designed to improve the relationships between children and caregivers.

Non-Directive Play Therapy

Non-directive play therapy is founded on the idea that play is the “language” of young children.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

ART is a technique that helps to restore mental health by changing the way distressing memories and images are stored in the brain. When we recall sad, scary, or confusing memories or situations, we experience uncomfortable emotions and feelings in our bodies. If we can change the images, we eliminate the symptoms.

Lego Group

At Stepping Stones Counseling, we are excited to offer a therapeutic Lego Group.

A structured, play-based social skills group where children work together to build Lego projects while guided by a therapist. Each child takes on a role — such as builder, designer, or communicator — encouraging teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.

Through collaborative play, children strengthen social skills, practice turn-taking, improve frustration tolerance, and build confidence in a supportive, low-pressure environment. This approach is especially helpful for children who benefit from hands-on learning and structured social interaction.
